One of my favorite things about the end of the year is that it gives us time to reflect on the achievements of our students over the year. We have seen tremendous gains in our students in both math and reading. Most importantly, we have watched their confidence soar as their abilities improved.
This summer, I challenge families to read with their children daily and to incorporate math into their everyday experiences. As little as 20 minutes a day will make a HUGE impact on the level students return to school on. Have a safe and fun summer! We recently read a book about two boys who build a trebuchet, or catapult, in their backyard. It is a funny book that ends up with smashed birthday cake and an upset little sister! We decided to try our own skill at building a trebuchet using supplies from our classroom. The students did a great job engineering their trebuchets. We tested them by having an accuracy contest using candy corn and marshmallows!
